Yes, you will need a driving licence to ride a bike. This is because people who want to ride bikes for pleasure (like you) must hold at least a provisional riding licence (or D-bike). You can get a provisional D-bike without having held any other kind of licence but not having one will mean that your bike must be ridden on the pavement or footway and not the road.
If you are over 16 years old and have passed the theory test, then you can buy a bike without first taking lessons or passing another practical test (although it is still recommended that these are taken).
